Atomic Cafe - Red Tulip

While I’m taking time to recover from Lyme Disease (my motor skills are still out of balance), I’ve been reflecting on how much I miss the simple act of holding a brush.
In the meantime, I wanted to share one of my favorite paintings: “Atomic Cafe – Red Tulip” (oil on canvas, 30” x 30”).
This piece began with a quiet moment at the Gardens of Central Park in Warsaw, IN, when I looked up and saw a single red tulip glowing against the bright blue sky. What captivated me was the play of cadmium red and orange hues, and the way the sunlight illuminated the petals in contrast to that endless blue.
It became less about the flower itself and more about immersion in color and light—a joyful visual meditation.
For sale: $950 (unframed)
I’m also reviewing commission requests—DM if interested.

Aged Coneflower

Finished and SOLD: “Aged Coneflower” oil on canvas, 36” x 36” (3ft x 3ft). I’m feeling my years today, thus the title, ha.
[lin•e•ar | linēar | consisting of or predominantly formed using lines or outlines: simple linear designs.]

Atomic Cafe - Yellow Tulip

Flashback: Atomic Cafe - Yellow Tulip, oil on canvas, 30” x 30”.

One day I noticed this singular Tulip in my front yard garden on a very sunny day. Looking straight down at it, it just exploded out of the ground with the sun beating on it. (My favorite part is the expressively painted mulch - an abstract contrast to the naturalism of the Tulip.)

$1200 DM for more info.

Atomic Cafe - Yellow Tulip

Atomic Cafe - Yellow Tulip, oil canvas, 30" x 30"
(For sale: $1,200, contact me at youngtimothyw@gmail.com)

Second one finished of a floral trilogy I'm working on. It is a contemporary realist rendering of form using light, not to create volume, but to render a luminous affect of form. This is not meant to be a botanically correct likeness necessarily, but instead a visual unending impulse of it's reality. Contrary to looking up into the sky, as with Atomic Cafe - Red Tulip, this is looking straight down into the mulched garden bed.
Available, contact me.

Backwoods Delight

Backwoods Delight, oil on canvas, 36" x 36"
Private Collection. Available for commissions.
This oil on canvas is a new painting I just finished. A slightly different approach from my other work (à la Malcolm Morley) the piece developed as I began to modify colors and lines using intuitive color and loose paint handling, suggesting a lyrical abstraction of my backwoods view.

"I still think the landscape provides endless opportunities in which to explore color patterns and lyrical linear movements in a magical way." A new direction in my work. I also created a painting trailer of this piece for my Facebook page.

Backyard Lily

sold
Backyard Lily, oil on canvas, 30" x 40"

The lily was sitting on the back patio table catching the sun rays (behind the lily you can see the back woods reflected in the glass patio sliding door.) I painted it using thin layers of paint in a very aggressive painterly approach. A lot of light action taking place throughout the composition.

Garden Glory

Garden Glory - Homage to William Orbit, Pieces In A Modern Style, oil on canvas, 30 x 40"

Finally a post, as a change of pace occurred. A patron friend had seen a small 7 x 9" pastel piece I had done titled Garden Glory, which was a personal depiction of what may be considered the spiritual nature behind a backyard floral garden (one my wife had grown.) He enjoyed the piece and concept so much that he bought the pastel (it hadn't been for sale) and then commissioned me to transpose the pastel as an oil painting, 30 x 40".
