National Bison Month - July

Yes!! It’s JULY - NATIONAL BISON MONTH! Warsaw City Hall (Indiana) ask me to put up a display commemorating National Bison Month in Warsaw’s down town ‘Alley Gallery,’ on Buffalo St. The gallery consists of 10 glass encased cabinets along a quaint alley, adjacent to the Biryani Kitchen (a delicious authentic Indian cuisine restaurant) @Biryanikitchen.
The display is my ‘bison series’ of sketches and small paintings I had done based on my 5ft by 7ft oil painting titled, ‘Bison, bison - Tatanka’ (awakening from a slumbering posture.)
And if you want a great bison burger check out @shawnaniganslic

"Bison bison - Tatanka" oil on canvas, 5ft x 7ft

For sale: "Bison bison – Tatanka", oil on canvas, 5ft x 7ft.
$9,500 (does not include shipping.)
This painting was in direct response to a photograph a friend had taken of a bison near the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and Badlands National Park, South Dakota. The moment he shared his photo and story I was imaging a large oil on canvas painting exhibiting it's powerful presence – the National Mammal of the United States.
This piece can be seen at the Ivy Tech Community College, Warsaw, IN. It is a visual reminder of the bison heritage and the State of Indiana. Numbering in excess of 6 million in the past, the bison migrated through Indiana creating what is now called the Buffalo Trace trail. The bison is also included on the Indiana State Seal as a symbol of westward expansion.

Solitary Moment III

sold
Solitary Moment III
(Buffalo Series), oil on canvas panel, 8" x 10"

Have been busy working on three new paintings at the same time, which has delayed my posting. I've posted this piece from my buffalo series in the meantime. It reflects some soft tonal issues I'm working with along with the direct bold brush strokes.

Old Sentinel (Badlands National Park)

sold
Old Sentinel
(Badlands National Park series) oil on canvas board, 9 x 12"

Continuing to work on daily paintings this was inspired by the Sage Creek series and my larger piece Bison, bison (Tatanka) I wanted to muscle it up a bit - let it go. I'm actually reversing my process being more energetic by simplifying the forms and colors.
