Dogs

The two paintings shown are: “Freddy, The Pomeranian,” oil on canvas, 30” x 40” by me, and Edouard Manet, “A King Charles Spaniel,” oil on linen, 18” x 14”, (1866).

After a number of inquiries I am now taking commissions for dog portraits. During my short hiatus I have enjoyed viewing and studying animal paintings by Stubbs, Velazquez, Frans Marc, and Edouard Manet. Particularly interesting have been the dog renderings. Visiting my dad in South Carolina, one evening I sat down on the living room couch to take a break. Sensing some presence in the room, I turned to my right. There was the Pomeranian, looking at me. Continuing to stare at me, I began to notice the arrangement of forms and colors that surrounded FredE. The composition seemed to acknowledge that this was his space, so I grabbed my camera - thus, the title, "Arrangement in Black and White."
