On the Beach (South Carolina), oil on canvas board, 12 x 16"
A small tonal piece here. I composed the scene (Myrtle Beach State Park) to create a large expanse in a small picture plane. My two daughters are on the waters edge to give scale to the tonal banding created by the dry sand, wet sand, white waves, and ocean water, sky, and clouds. (Somewhat inspired by Edward Potthast.)

I love it. Perhaps I should read more and I will find out, but do you work on site or in the studio?
Thanks Sarah. Most of my finished work is done in the studio. On site I sketch, do watercolor color studies, take photos, all practices that allow me to observe. Then I take my idea into the studio to realize it.
