Storm Overhead
(Badlands National Park Trilogy Series) oil on canvas, 16 x 20"

Another piece from my skyscape series of the Badlands. This scene is looking west toward Conata Basin in the Badlands National Park, South Dakota.

Wonderful! Great tones and colors - but most important, it conveys a feeling of being there, quiet fullness and emptiness at the same time.

Thank you for noticing that! Tone has been key to the series, leaving out unnecessary detail. As I was sitting there sketching I didn't notice detail as much as just responding to the tones of the forms that conveyed the feeling of the place. You are right, there is a quiet fullness there in the Badlands and a wonderful solitude.(The stormy sky is a bit richer in the original. I should re shoot the painting for the post).
